How to Invest in Yourself — 5 Key Ways
At the beginning of a new year, many people find themselves setting New Year’s Resolutions which may last for awhile, but much less than half of these people are sticking to them a few weeks or months out, so there has to be a better way to do it.
I believe one of the reasons so many aren’t successful is because they just sometimes don’t know what to do, so I have come up with a list of 5 key ways you can invest in yourself this year and I hope that they are going to give you one, or even even all 5 ideas, that you can start using right away!
Before we get started though I want to say that all of these ideas don’t have to be implemented right away and in fact doing so might make some of you less successful. Maybe you decide to focus on one of these ideas first and only add another once you are regularly doing it, or maybe you add another habits every 2 months. Whatever you do, be sure to make a plan before you start anything. By knowing yourself and your past tendencies, you can set yourself up for success and create lasting habits.
The first way to invest in yourself is by starting your day off by priming your mindset to believe that you have what it takes using something called an affirmation. An affirmation essentially is something that is said to be true. Now, I’ll be honest with you and say that I was never a huge fan of people relying solely on affirmations and always thought doing that alone was pretty wishy-washy, but I think the words and dialogue we tell ourselves is extremely important and we have to be careful and make sure that they are positive and encouraging messages. I really encourage you to start your day with a short prompt like “I blank… which could be I AM STRONG or I manage money well” in a journal, or by telling yourself that and see how it affects you. I find on days that I do this, I have that little phrase running through my mind constantly and keeps me focused on who I want to be and who I do not want to be.
The second way to invest in yourself is to learn a new skill. This has been a huge area of investment for me over the past few years and one that you might have even seen depending on how long you’ve watched this YouTube channel because when I started, I didn’t know how to do anything with video editing or photoshop. If you’ve watched the videos over the past two years, or follow the instagram account, you’ll be able to notice a more refined look and see my skills develop. It has been a process, but I encourage you to identify a skill that you want to become good at and spend anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes a day learning that skill and after a few months you’re probably going to be pretty good at it. We also live in a time where there are no excuses like “I didn’t know how to do something” or “no one can teach me” because the internet has so many available resources.
The third way to invest in yourself is to focus in on your money and more specifically how you can create more. One of my goals this year is to make on average $1000 a month for the entire year from my business. To do that, I knew that I would have to add one or more additional streams of income, so I’ve made a plan on how I’m going to do that involving things like ads, coaching, online courses, and physical products. If you choose this challenge, I’m going to encourage you to think about what skills you have and how can you help people in this area to create cash flow?
The fourth way to invest in yourself is to become healthier and this is definitely one area that will affect everything else. A lot of people join a gym and that might be what works best for you, but whatever you decide to do, however you decide to better your health I’m going to challenge you to bring someone along with you. By finding someone who will get healthy with you will encourage, motivate and challenge you to live your greatest, healthiest life and hold you accountable too…
The fifth way and final way I’m going to talk about in this video to invest in yourself is to end your day with gratitude. At the end of my day, I sit down and get clear on at least 3 things that I am grateful for. I record them in a journal and this is probably one of the greatest practices I do. Being conscious and aware of the things in your life that you are grateful for will do way more than you can imagine and it is so easy to do and has a huge ROI!
So, I’ve given you 5 areas that you can focus on to invest in yourself which I am sure will bring you lots of growth, so let me know in the comments below how you plan on investing in yourself this year!
